An introduction to the anatomy of the nervous system is followed by discussion of neurological conditions and their physical therapy interventions, including manual techniques, strengthening exercises, balance and coordination training, gait training, and condition-specific techniques. 234L Neuropathology Lab (2) Coreq: 234. Provides an understanding of pathologies, physiology, and healing of diagnoses pertaining to orthopedics and introduces appropriate interventions. Builds familiarity with orthopedic tests performed by PTs as well as basic surgical interventions.

Taught through discussion, debate, literature reviews, and critical thinking exercises.

Six-week affiliation in which students are expected to competently perform all techniques and interventions previously introduced. Students are required to demonstrate a continuing ability to perform components of interventions safely and competently as will as show progression toward entry-level performance. Pass/fail only; pass required for continued program enrollment.

Allows students to refine skills related to intervention, communication, documentation, and duties expected of a competent physical therapist assistant. Perform at entry level by the conclusion of affiliation is required. Pass/fail only.

Prereq: BIOL 215, 215L, 216, 216L; HLTH 211; MATH 112. Coreq: 101, 108, 115; ENGL 101; PHIL 200. In conjunction with 101, provides hands-on demonstration and positioning using the on-campus energized lab. Review of radiographs for pertinent anatomic structures as well as for diagnostic quality. Radiographic analysis includes positioning, technique, and problem resolution.
