Capstone experience that reviews such models of excellence as Head Start, High Scope, Montessori, British infant schools, and Reggio enrichment learning. Topics include administration and procedures, community relations, supervision, problem solving, and consultation. Students integrate prior knowledge and critically review scholarly research to develop a personalized educational approach, and examine the current state of research, promising innovative and futuristic practices, and emerging trends. Each student observes 15 hours within an approved state community child-care setting and investigates comprehensive child-care education.

Topics include ethical principles in research, hypothesis formation and evaluation, experimental control, basic descriptive statistics, an overview of inferential statistics, correlation evidence, evaluation of correlations, reliability, validity, single subject research, and quasi-experimental designs. Prereq: 201. Overview of the history of psychology from its prescientific origins to major contemporary theories including structuralism, functionalism, behaviorism, and cognitive psychology.

Prereq: 201. Deals with the increasing role psychology plays in the criminal justice system. Areas covered include evaluation of eyewitness testimony, jury selection consultants, coping with pretrial publicity, evaluation of attempts to detect deception (e.g., polygraphs, voice stress analyzers, integrity tests, etc.) , insanity defenses, competency evaluations, and evaluation of efforts to decrease recidivism.
