An introductory course to the field of psychology. Topics include the physiological basis of behavior, sensation, perception, learning theory, research methodology, motivation, stress and health, social psychology, and various other areas of psychology. F, Sp, Su I; ISP, ISW.

A transitional survey course that refines and documents each student's understanding of ECD pedagogy, personal teaching philosophy, caregiving, and safety within an ever-changing world community. Students construct a learning portfolio to document current and future learning mastery relevant to the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Apprenticeship for Child Development Specialist (ACDS) program, and other professional guidelines.

Explores the diversity of human potential with a focus on excellence in teaching and maximization of abilities. Topics include public disability law, IEP-IFSP requirements and procedures, and professional ethics, with a focus on abilities, developmental disabilities, giftedness, and diversity. The perspective that all children can excel to high levels is integral.

Explores psychosocial, physical, and cognitive development from international perspectives. Topics include such fundamentals as developmental theories, health, safety, nutrition, parenting, child interactions, safety, health, first aid, and abuse. Identifies assessment of developmental expectations. Students demonstrate practical application and integration of research and theory.
