An introduction to the history of the Middle East from 1800 to the present. Surveys major political, economic and social developments including modernization, nationalism and Islamic fundamentalism. Explores the historical roots of contemporary regional problems, such as the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Gulf War. Prerequisite: enGl& 101 or WRIT 101 or eligible to enroll in 101.

An in-depth examination of a topical issue which will require the student to conduct independent research and present findings in a public forum. Focus will vary according to the instructor and discipline. Specific course content and additional requirements are presented in the course syllabus. Prerequisite: Successful completion of WRIT 101; eligible for college level math; completion of at least 30 credits of college level coursework with a GPA of 3.5 or greater.
