Provides knowledge and skills necessary to safely respond to and manage the defensive operations involved in a chemical emergency. Course goes beyond the awareness level and provides the firefighter with additional knowledge to assist in mitigating a hazardous materials incidents. Prepares student for the IFSAC Hazardous materials operations certification exam in the Spring. Prerequisite: must be enrolled as and Emergency Services Technology student.

Burning characteristics of combustibles, interpretation of clues, burn patterns leading to points of origin, identification of incendiary indications, sources of ignition and ignited materials, and preservation of fire scene evidence. Prerequisite: none.

Entry level fire suppression training for wildland fires including: grass, brush and forest fires. Includes fire behavior, theory and strict safety standards. Successful completion of classroom and practical sessions result in national (NWCG) certification as wildland "Firefighter Type II". Prerequisite: none.

Introduction to a fire officer's duties. Content includes the required mind set, report writing, diversity, workplace safety, decision making, quality assurance, supervisory practices and pre-incident planning. Prerequisite: fire Department Affiliation.

Work-based learning to include managing task assignments, member assistance programs, applying human resource management policies, citizen's complaints, safety regulations and accident investigation. Prerequisite: Work site authorization agreement and foD 101, fire officer 1 - Part 1.

Understanding a fire officer's duties. Content includes determining fire cause, emergency operations, compliance issues, scene safety, IMS, strategy/tactics, size-up and action planning and the PIO function. Prerequisite: fire Department Affiliation and foD 102W, officer 1 - Part 1 (Work-Based Learning)

Work-based learning to include directing training evolutions, managing public inquiries, determining preliminary fire cause, pre-incident planning, incident action planning and emergency operations. Prerequisite: Work site authorization agreement and foD 103, fire officer 1 - Part 2.

Enhancing the fire officer's effectiveness. Content includes role conflict, reactivity, personal power, ethics, problem solving, decision-making, situational leadership, delegating, coaching and discipline. Prerequisite: fire Department affiliation and foD 103 officer 1 -part 2.

Becoming a fire service instructor. Content includes instructor challenges, presentation skills, legal considerations, student learning, delivery methods, instructional media and evaluating performance. Prerequisite: fire Department Affiliation.

Assuming the role of Incident Safety Officer. Content includes duties and responsibilities, physiological and environmental hazards, incident operations, incident analysis and accident investigation. Prerequisite: Department Affiliation.
