The interaction between parents and children, the development and socialization of the child within the family and the relationship of the family to the school and community from a developmental perspective. Approaches to child rearing, management, discipline and communication for parents, teachers and other child care personnel are presented. Also examines family social support functions and considers multicultural issues in child socialization and guidance. Appropriate for present and future parents, teachers and child personnel.

The primary goal for the student's successful transition will be accomplished via the process of application. The course is designed also as an end-of-program assessment tool. The basic assumption is that the developmental course work has equipped the students with the knowledge of developmental theories, counseling strategies, research methods and assessment procedures. This capstone will test the student's ability to apply the course work to real-world situations. The course objectives are organized to facilitate the process of application.
