Presents first-time users with sufficient information to make practical use of database management software using the basics of building databases. Covers specific business applications. Lecture 1 hour per week.

3.00 Credits
Surveys data transmission systems, communication lines, data sets, network, interfacing, protocols, and modes of transmission. Course content emphasizes network structure and operation. Prerequisites are CSC 110 and CSC 200. Lecture 3 hours per week. NOTE: Students will not receive credit if they have previously taken IST 212. Students will have the opportunity to earn the CIW Internet Business Foundations associate certification in this course.

4.00 Credits
Provides instruction in networking media, physical and logical topologies, common networking standards and popular networking protocols. Course content emphasizes the TCP/IP protocol suite and related IP addressing schemes, including CIDR. Course content also includes selected topics in network implementation, support and LAN/WAN connectivity. Maps to CompTIA Network + certification. Prerequisites are CSC 110, CSC 200, ITN 100 and ITN 106. Lecture 4 hours per week. NOTE: Students will not receive credit if they have previously taken IST 200. Students will have the opportunity to earn the CIW Network Technology Foundations associate certification in this course.

Teaches use of operating system utilities and multiple-level directory structures, creation of batch files, and configuration of microcomputer environments. May include a study of graphical user interfaces. Maps to CompTIA A+ Certification. Prerequisites are CSC 110 and CSC 200. Lecture 4 hours per week. NOTE: Students will not receive credit if they have previously taken (IST 106 or IST 104 Macinstosh) and (IST 108 or IST 104 UNIX).

4.00 Credits
Includes specially designed instruction to give students a basic knowledge of hardware and software configurations. It includes the installation of various peripheral devices as well as basic system hardware components. Maps to CompTIA A+ Certification. Prerequisites are CSC 110, CSC 200 and ITN 106. Lecture 4 hours per week. NOTE: Students will not receive credit if they have previously taken IST 216/217 or IST 220.

Consists of instruction that teaches students how to manage and maintain a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environment. Maps to Microsoft exam 70-290. Prerequisites are CSC 110, CSC 200, ITN 100, ITN 101, ITN 106 and ITN 107. Lecture 4 hours per week. NOTE: Students will not receive credit if they have previously taken IST 206/207.

Provides instruction in the basics of network security in depth. Course content includes security objectives, security architecture, security models and security layers. Course content also includes risk management, network security policy, and security training. Course content includes security keys, confidentiality integrity, availability, accountability and auditability. Maps to CompTIA Security+ certification. Prerequisites are CSC 110, CSC 200, ITN 100, ITN 101, ITN 106 and ITN 107. Lecture 4 hours per week.

Concentrates instruction in fundamentals of object-oriented programming using Visual Basic.NET and the .NET framework. Course content emphasizes program construction, algorithm development, coding, debugging, and documentation of graphical user interface applications. Prerequisites are CSC 110 and CSC 200. Lecture 4 hours per week. NOTE: Students will not receive credit if they have previously taken IST 174/174 or IST 176/177.

4.00 Credits
Entails instruction in fundamentals of object-oriented programming using Java. This course emphasizes program construction, algorithm development, coding, debugging, and documentation of console and graphical user interface applications. Prerequisites are CSC 110 and CSC 200. ITP 112 is also recommended as a prerequisite. Lecture 4 hours per week. NOTE: Students will not receive credit if they have previously taken IST 227 or IST 149.
