Presents a framework of personal money management concepts, including establishing values and goals, determining sources of income, managing income, preparing a budget, developing consumer buying ability, using credit, understanding savings and insurance, providing for adequate retirement, and estate planning, Lecture 3 hours per week.

Examines personal financial investments, money management and risk reward strategies. Covers most widely employed investment instruments, including current information on stocks, bonds, mutuals, real estate, limited partnerships and tax sheltering devices. Lecture 1-2 hours per week.

Introduces basic financial management topics including statement analysis, working capital, capital budgeting, and long-term financing. Focuses on Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return techniques, lease vs. buy analysis, and Cost of Capital computations. Uses problems and cases to enhance skills in financial planning and decision making. Lecture 3 hours per week.

Focuses on the relationship between culture and geography. Presents a survey of modern demographics, landscape modification, material and non-material culture, language, race and ethnicity, religion, politics, and economic activities. Introduces the student to types and uses of maps. Lecture 3 hours per week.

Introduces the student to the language used in the health record. Includes a system-by-system review of anatomic disease, and operative terms, abbreviations, radiography procedures, laboratory tests, and pharmacology terms. Lecture 3 hours per week.

Includes the study of prefixes, suffixes, stem words, and technical terms; puts emphasis on the causes and treatment of selected disease processes. Lecture 3 hours per week. Students are strongly encouraged to complete HIT 111 prior to enrolling in this course.

Develops skill in the transcription and preparation of reports for the medical record and in the operation and care of dictating and transcribing equipment. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

Introduces the health care delivery system and (1) the purpose, content, legal and accreditation requirements of health records; (2) the use of health data nomenclatures and classification systems; (3) the organization of registries and indexes. Includes data retrieval, storage and processing systems, quality assurance methodologies, statistical reporting and supervision practices in a health record department. Provides practice in manual and computerized data collection and display techniques. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.

Examines the development of coding classification systems. Introduces ICD-9-CM coding classification system, its format and conventions. Stresses basic coding steps and guidelines according to body systems. Provides actual coding exercises in relation to each system covered. Lecture 3-4 hours. Laboratory 0-3 hours. Total 3-7 hours per week.

(3 credits) Examines the development of western civilization from ancient times to the present. The first semester ends with 1715; the second semester continues through modern times. Lecture 3 hours per week.
