    Exploration into the development of a uniquely American form of performance, the musical, from its origins to the present day. Looking to exemplary musicals as case studies, students will read cultural and social history,musical theatre history, and criticism of each of the musicals. The course will examine musicals as unique cultural forms, particularly focusing on the musicals’ constituent elements and the relationship of musicals to democratic U.S. culture( s). Satisfies the U.S. Cultures requirement of the Liberal Arts Curriculum. Offered as needed. 3 credits.

    Semester-long investigation of behind-the-scenes work in theatre processes and production. Building on previous experience, increased participation in shop and production run crews will expose the design and technical process that transforms textbased visions of directors and designers into reality on stage for audiences. Weekly themed class sessions support theory and examine questions on topics and readings. Prerequisite: 2 credits of TR125. Fall and spring semesters. Repeatable for credit. 1 credit.

    Intermediate/advanced technique in modern dance continuing from TR140. This course is designed for the advanced modern dance student who has mastered the beginning and intermediate levels of modern dance study. This course will focus on clarity and adaptability of advanced movement. Satisfies the Artistic Expression requirement of the Liberal Arts Curriculum. Prerequisite: TR140. Spring semester, even-numbered years. 3 credits.

    Advanced techniques in tap dance continuing from TR141. This course will develop advanced knowledge and skills in the art of tap dancing. Class work will include intermediate to advanced combinations and projects for students who have mastered he basic techniques of tap. Satisfies the Artistic Expression requirement of the Liberal Arts Curriculum. Prerequisite: TR141. Spring semester, odd-numbered years. 3 credits.

    Intermediate/advanced technique in ballet continuing from TR142. Study will involve strengthening stability in various turns while performing exercises on half-toe; furthermore developing the smooth connection of movements of the arms and body. This course is designed for the student who has mastered the beginning techniques of classical ballet. Satisfies the Artistic Expression requirement of the Liberal Arts Curriculum. Prerequisite: TR142. Fall semester, odd-numbered years. 3 credits.
