    Provides 500 hours of directed field learning for seniors majoring in social work. A field placement in a public or private human service organization provides the opportunity for students to relate theories and principles of social work to generalist practice under MSW supervision. A concurrent,weekly, on-campus seminar is also required. The seminar is designed to strengthen the student’s experiences as an individual, family, group, or macro systems change agent. The weekly seminar does not count toward the 500 hours of field experience. Students must complete a total of 12 credits for the major. The course may be taken for the full 12 credits in one semester (SW440), or broken into two consecutive semesters of 6 credits each (SW441, taken twice). If the student elects to take the two-semester option,a grade change to the first course may be required upon completion of the second course to reflect final work. Open only to BSW candidates. Prerequisite: SW332. 6 credits. Repeatable for credit. Fee.

    An appreciation of theatre and theatre making. Topics include theatre crafts, theatre history, working relationships among theatre artists, and the theatre’s relationship to other forms of entertainment. Students view and critique professional theatre. Satisfies the Artistic Expression requirement of the Liberal Arts Core. Offered as needed. 3 credits.

    This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to the study and practice of theatre for students seeking future careers in the profession. Topics include the connection between theatre and the liberal arts, play analysis, theatre history, the fundamental nature of theatre art, the role of theatre in society, working relationships among theatre artists, and writing for and about theatre.

    Semester-long introduction to behind-the-scenes work in theatre process and production. Participation in shop and production run crews exposes the design and technical processes that transform text-based visions of directors and designers into reality on stage for audiences. Weekly themed class sessions support theory and examine questions on topics and readings. Fall and spring semesters. Repeatable for credit. 1 credit.

    An introduction to dance by analyzing beginner modern dance techniques and vocabulary. Students will explore these elements through combinations and movement exercises. Students will gain an understanding and appreciation for the art of modern dance. This course will explore topics of technique analysis, anatomy, history, improvisation, and approaches to choreography, evaluation, and criticism.

    The basics elements of movement and dance composition as techniques for achieving artistic expression as well as muscular strength and flexibility.
