In this course, students will be exposed to basic web design using a web design software and will be expected to create a web page that includes navigational links, hot spots on links, smart objects, drop down menus, and various other features. Students explore emerging technology tools, identify strong possibilities for each tool in learning environments, and evaluate applicability. Current examples of emerging technologies include moodles, wikis, podcasts, cell phone video, and Second Life web sites. Summer. Offered online. 2 credits.

Students will acquire a working knowledge of the basics of the operating systems most likely to be seen in an educational setting: Windows,Apple OS, Linux, and Unix. The course covers the fundamental attributes of each operating system, including the most current version and at least one recent version. This will be important to assessing administrative technological needs, implementing and maintaining interactive information systems and networks, troubleshooting, and planning for technology implementation. Students will gain hands-on experience in computer networking fundamentals (primarily LAN’s) and current market operating systems in preparation to plan, purchase, maintain, and evaluate the performance of computer systems. Troubleshooting strategies, assessment of technological needs, assistive technology possibilities, and systems security issues will also be addressed. Prerequisite: ID670. Studies the social structure and hierarchies of schools and districts. In order to foster interest and growth in technology, including development and implementation of technology plans, it is necessary to understand the diffusion of innovations within a school environment and how to influence the adoption of new technologies and programs by tapping into that unseen structure and increasing communication and collaboration between all constituents. This course provides the opportunity for such study. The learner, in consultation with a faculty member, is responsible and accountable for all research and presentation of the topic in an approved format. Prerequisite: ID500. Permission required. Exploration and analysis of the basic principles of instructional design associated with the development and cognitive effects of a variety of instructional technology media and materials, including: prepared software; emerging programming, authoring, and problem solving tools; web and html designs; audio, photography, graphics, animation and video; and on-line workgroups and resources. Instructional design features will include adaptation of technology to address teaching methodologies, curriculum resources, administrative functions and evaluation of student achievement.
