A comprehensive study of fundamental principles and contemporary practices of communicating to a corporation’s shareholders and stakeholders. Students examine the central role of communication in the capital markets and the systemic interactions of corporations, intermediaries, analysts, regulators, media, and investors. They will obtain experience in writing, design, and publication of financial communication documents and in organization and production of financial communication events. Study of how the First Amendment and its press,speech,religion, assembly, and petition clauses shape public discourse and artistic endeavors in the mass media and other public forums. Focus on how judicial decision-making has established the parameters within which the clauses have their impact. Examination of why some speech is not protected under the First Amendment umbrella. Learners develop basic concepts and skills in information newsletter design and development, basic digital photography, news writing, computer graphics, and production and presentation techniques. A detailed examination of the corporate communication department, staff, and resources; the corporate communication plan as a marketing strategy; and the use of public relations as a positioning and propaganda strategy on the local, regional, national, and global scale. The focus of the seminar is to discuss and debate current social, cultural, moral, ethical, and theoretical trends and issues that shape the disciplines and professions in communication.
