Determining needs, organizing resources, designing and conducting training and development programs, preparing evaluation, workplace follow-up, business change, career and performance management. Builds upon prior human resource course work. Study includes: compensation and benefit administration; employee and labor relations; international issues; employee training and development issues; ethical considerations. In this capstone course students will be given the opportunity to develop their own business plan. A program of guest speakers will be coordinated to aid in these projects. Prerequisites: BU235 and BU295. Spring semester, odd-numbered years, evenings only. 3 credits.

Broad, in-depth study of personnel and human resource management. This course, using the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Learning System, encompasses the broad base of human resource management knowledge. Permission required. No withdrawals are permitted after the class begins. Prerequisite: BU295. 2 credits. Fee.

Students are expected to participate 12 to 15 hours per week at an approved internship site; a minimum of 120 hours for accounting majors and 240 hours for business majors. A concurrent, bi-weekly, on-campus seminar is also required which assists with the integration of theory, research, and practice. The seminar does not count toward the total hour requirement. Repeatable for credit. Permission of instructor required one semester in advance of registration. Fall, spring, summer. 3-6 credits.

Culminating experience for Business majors. Study of small business development and the issues related to the basic elements of economics, finance, accounting, marketing, human resources, and the business plan. Students utilize analytical and delivery skills in formal team presentations. Fall evenings, spring daytime, and ADP sessions 3 and 5. Seniors only. 3 credits.

Study of the principles of financial accounting and analysis of financial statements. Open only to MBA students who do not have a bachelor’s degree in business or accounting, serving as a prerequisite for BU521. Fall semester and spring semester, odd-numbered years. 3 credits.

This course reviews micro- and macro-economic theories, examines qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques derived from them, and applies these tools to improve economic forecasting and managerial decision-making. 3 credits.
