Explores the application of the Eastern Christian response to God as He reveals Himself in the Gospel and as He unites us to Himself in worship. Our response-our "life in Christ," or our "spiritual lifebegins with offering our entire self, concretized in prayer, fasting and almsgiving and in our relationship with the Christian community and the community at-large; our outreach to the world. Prerequisite: Enrollment in Catechist program or employment as a Catechist in a parish/school setting.

Student is assigned to a parish community in the capacity of Catechist. Under the supervision of the director of catechesis for the parish, opportunity is afforded the student to integrate theory and practice. Only open to students enrolled in Catechist program or students working as Catechists in a parish/school setting. Prerequisite: Enrollment in Catechist program or employment as a Catechist in a parish/school setting.

This course offers an in-depth treatment of specifi c issues in religious studies. Topics will vary from semester to semester. Prerequisite: Approval from the Chairperson of the Liberal Art Division.

An introductory cross-cultural study that examines human beings as creative animals who live their lives with a blend of meanings as they interact with their environment. An increasingly interdependent world is revealed as examples are presented from both contemporary societies and the primitive world.

An introduction to the basic concepts in the fi eld of sociology. The course includes an analysis of the structure and function of social organization, culture, socialization, social groups, social stratifi cation, social institutions, and collective behavior.

This course is designed to enable the student to consider different viewpoints on social issues and to encourage debate through proactive questions during each class session. Major contemporary social issues, all of which affect society at large, will be examined (i.e. aging, the homeless, domestic violence, child abuse, rape and substance abuse.) We will attempt to gain new insights and interpretations to help us better understand and evaluate society’s contemporary social issues.

This course will provide students with an introduction and overview of the United States criminal justice system. Study will include the differences between criminal, civil and social justice, what constitutes a crime, law enforcement, policing strategies, the judicial system, sentencing strategies and correctional practices.

This course will provide an overview of the relationship between social factors and health, the interaction between health practitioners and patients, and the ability of the patient to adapt to society’s changes within the health care delivery system.

A study of the culture, value system, social institutions and traditional artistic expressions of a selected group or several related groups inhabiting a particular geographical region. Prerequisite: Approval from the Chairperson of the Liberal Arts Division.

A study of the child welfare system, the adult and juvenile mental health systems, and the relationship between lawyers and human services workers practicing in those fi elds. The course will survey the governing laws and regulations and analyze their history, purpose, and effectiveness. Veterinary Technology students must complete the "Green Verifi cation Form," which documentshealth insurance coverage and receipt of immunizations against rabies and tetanus. This document should be presented to the Program Director prior to the beginning of classes. Students who do not present this document will not be permitted to enroll in any course that includes hands-on training with animals. Students should allow at least six weeks for completion of the rabies immunization series. All laboratories that involve hands-on training with animals also include animal care duties outside of class time.
