Special education law, policy, and regulation are studied as the framework for providing services for all students, with particular consideration of current and predicted trends in law affecting children with disabilities.

This program will provide upcoming leaders in Special Education the critical foundation in supervision and administration of special education programs in public schools and districts. Students will gain an understanding of how to apply the principles of IDEA, Response to Intervention and Section 504. In addition student study of the contemporary and controversial issues within the field of special education emphases will be placed on the role of the supervisor or administrator. Discussions will focus on evidence-based core concepts that contribute to effective program planning; investigation of cognitive, academic, behavioral, and psycho-social solutions and implications for those working with exceptional students; and future implications for the advancement of special education diagnostic and instructional services.

A re-examination of programs and services for diverse learners from the viewpoint of cognitive neuroscience of learning. Viewing learning as essentially a process of neurological change, neurological research about learning offers practitioners and policy-makers insights and perspectives to change educational practice.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student an opportunity for in-depth understanding of the supervisory and administrative duties for the role of Supervisor of Special Education. This course provides the Special Education Supervisor candidate with a specified professional knowledge base included in the following aspects of leadership: decision-making, leadership theory, communication skills, human relations theory, administrative theory, policy analysis/evaluation, supervision/assessment practices.

The purpose of this course is to provide the student an opportunity for in-depth understanding of the supervisory and administrative duties for the role of Supervisor of Special Education. This course provides the Special Education Supervisor candidate with a specified professional knowledge-base included in the following aspects of leadership: decision-making, leadership theory, communication skills, human relations theory, administrative theory, policy analysis/evaluation, supervision/assessment practices. The internship constitutes 180 hours of the PDE requirement for 360 hours of field experience.

This course provides field experience in a school setting to perform the functions required of a special education supervisor in local educational agencies (LEAs), including charter schools, private schools, and intermediate units. The student enrolled in this course will be supervised by faculty or by an approved mentor. The student will be provided with experience in self-evaluation and reflection, administrative shadowing, departmental and school improvement plans, student evaluation and placement processes in special education, staff observation and supervision, clinical supervision of a peer and development, and planning for staff professional development.

The student enrolled in this course will be supervised by faculty or an approved mentor. The student will be provided with experience in: Leading Change, Discipline and manifestation determination, 504 Service Agreements, Related Service Providers, School Finance and budgeting, Resources within the District, Inter-Agency Coordination, Community Partners and the Mental Health System, School Board, Child Find and the Referral Process, Mediation and Due Process, and working with Parents.

Successful nonprofits develop effective boards and develop capacity in personnel. This course analyzes and distills current perspectives according to four different models; the Policy Governance model, the Entrepreneurial model, the Constituency model, and the Emergent Cellular model, evaluating the positive and negative features of each and exploring new ways of framing management in turbulent times.

As nonprofits play an increasingly vital role in the development and implementation of public policy to promote an informed, healthy, and strong democratic society, their impact is enhanced by promoting their mission and developing resources. This course analyzes nonprofit growth, development, and effectiveness in public policy-making through media and marketing.

In-depth analysis of organizational effectiveness, comprehensive strategic planning, visioning, capital and operational campaigning, and organization, tools and resources for fund-raising planning. Particular attention is paid to funding sustainability.
