    Explores the various methods for teaching the social studies on the secondary level and involves advance field practice in the high school setting. Lab fee $65. Fall semester, evening school. Prerequisites: EDU 211 or PSY 211, junior standing, 15 credit hours of social studies courses, Social Studies Education major declared, and requirements as mandated by Chapter 354. This course must be successfully completed before student teaching. Fall semester, even years.

    This course provides the future teacher with preparation for teaching in the content area of social studies for grades 4-8. A variety of teaching strategies and philosophies related to teaching social studies will be explored. A major component of this course is field experience which includes teaching of lessons. Lab fee $65. Prerequisites: PSY 211 and requirements as mandated by Chapter 354. This course must be successfully completed before student teaching. Fall semester.

    A seminar or directed study on an announced topic or set of topics. Credit specified at registration. Repeatable for credit with a new topic.
  • 3.00 Credits

    A work-study type project either on or off campus, designed to expose the student to an actual workplace experience. Undertaken with the consent, regular guidance and direction of an instructor qualified in the area, and with written permission of the instructor and department chair. A student should spend 45 hours at the workplace site for each semester-hour credit. Internships used for elective credit may be taken credit no credit, but those taken for major or minor requirements must be letter-graded. Normally, internships are limited to juniors and seniors with at least a 2.5 GPA in courses taken in the department in which the internship is taken.
  • 3.00 Credits

    Specialized study of an area not covered by a regular course. Prerequisite: honors scholar standing or membership in Alpha Chi, and approval by the instructor and the honors program coordinator.
  • 2.00 Credits

    Individualized advanced study, research, or project development in a clearly defined and limited area not covered by a regular course. The work should be primarily initiated by the student but undertaken with the consent, regular guidance, and direction of an instructor qualified in the area. Prerequisites: junior standing, a GPA of 2.5 or above in departmental offerings, and approval by the instructor and department chair.
  • 3.00 Credits

    An introduction to mold making and casting methods related to the manipulation of three dimensional forms and space by completing sculptural and architectural projects. Lab fee $120. Fall semester.
  • 1.00 Credits

    An independently directed student project facilitated by the Professor in addition to three off-campus site visits to cultural institutions, professional work places, and contexts related to practical experience. Repeatable with instructor permission. Every semester.
