This course is a two weekend long seminar. The purpose of the seminar is two fold. First, it is designed to introduce the student to methods, curriculum, techniques, and materials for teaching art in elementary schools. Students will participate in studio workshops that include drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, weaving and printmaking. Emphasis will be on integrating art, people, places, cultures and history to meet academic standards. Secondly, the seminar will discuss the goals and objectives of music and dance in the elementary school setting. It will focus on exposing students to the fundamentals of music and dance and then the integration of these elements into the classroom. It is expected that students will develop an positive appreciation for music in the elementary school and a willingness to integrate music and dance into classroom activities on a regular basis as a result of their participation.
