Non-intensive English language learning through cultural immersion in real world activities. Field trips, movies, authentic materials, etc.

A beginning listening and speaking course in which the non-native speaker will be introduced to common American English sounds, intonation in simple sentences, and some everyday means for exchanging information.

Beginning with letter recognition and sequencing, this course will introduce the student to basic pre-reading and reading skills with passages containing high frequency vocabulary. Emphasis will be on lexical growth and comprehension of the main idea.

This beginning writing course starts with the convention of alphabetization, capitalization, and basic punctuation. Students construct simple sentences noting subject-verb agreement. Pre-writing activities are explored as students learn to create a coherent, unified piece of writing.

This basic course introduces the student to various social and cultural aspects of life in the U.S. as well as field trips into the community.

This course introduces the basics of grammar such as simple present, simple past, and present progressive tenses for "be," "have," regular verbs, and some irregular verb forms along with the future use of "be going to." Content includes subject and object pronouns, quantifiers, comparative and superlative adjectives, prepositions of place and time, and basic contractions.

In this course the student will learn more American English phonemes, stress patterns, some commonly reduced phrases, and how to use word stress for focus and emphasis in a variety of communication scenarios.

Students progress to more meaningful reading by identifying main idea, scanning for details, inferring word meaning from context, and summarizing passages.

In this low intermediate writing course students develop logical paragraphs with connected sentences and transition words. Students also write personal and business letters, summarize simple research, and edit and evaluate a classmate's writing. Revision strategies will be introduced.

This course explores the people, places, jobs, technology, entertainment, health, and educational system of the U.S. through texts, in-class discussions, the media, and field trips.
