TH 218: History of American Film

One unit. A subjective history of American fi lm. This course examines landmark fi lms, their directors, stars, writers and producers. Each class will involve the screening of at least one fi lm, plus lecture and a discussion. The work of such fi lm directors as John Ford, Charlie Chaplin, Steven Spielberg, Sam Peckinpah and Stanley Kubrick will be viewed and analyzed. Noteworthy fi lm stars will be discussed and studied. The overall objective is to develop a grasp of the history of American cinema and the impact of great fi lms on the 20th century. Class participation is a key course requirement. Lab fee of $25.00
