EC 200: History of Economic Ideas

One unit. Over several hundred years, economists have developed explanations of, and commentaries on, capitalism and other economic systems. This course traces the development of that thought from mercantilism, through the writings of Smith, Mill, and Marx, the "Marginalists" of the late nineteenth century, and the work ofVeblen, Keynes, and Galbraith, up to the present. Students will explore the development of the analytical tools of economics, its philosophy and its roots in the world history of its time. Prerequisite: EC 101 or 102. Offered as required.
