An introductory course in jazz theory and orchestration. Through this course students will study the transpositions, practical ranges and peculiarities of writing for the standard instruments found in contemporary jazz band. Students will learn the basic harmonic structures and notations of chords most commonly used in jazz today, and the basic functions of these chords. Students will study the most common voicings for the instruments of the jazz band in individual sections and in various combinations. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Ir-3-
