Students work as reporters on an on-line publication produced for the campus community and available on the World Wide Web. They are assigned beats to cover and work under the supervision of student editors (enrolled in Jlm 419) and with the guidance of the instructor. Students learn the fundamentals of persuasive writing and apply them to editorials and columns. In addition, they use interpretive reporting techniques to analyze a complex issue facing society and produce a series of editorials about the issue for publication.
