GBA 456: Leadership
3.00 Credits
University of Rochester
This course expands on the leadership concepts framed in Economic Theory of Organizations. It specifically addresses organizational architecture, how management differs from leadership, what is involved and accomplished through setting vision and strategy, and motivating and incenting teams to achieve superior results. The course will focus on how to achieve such results by addressing behavioral barriers such as conflict, politics and motivation, operational productivity, organizational structure, vision and goal setting, and values and ethics. Additional lectures will deal with the concept of continuously developing to be a better leader. The course will use case studies to show examples of how these tools work and what might happen if they are not utilized. Readings for setting the foundational framework from Managerial Economics and Organizational Architecture (Brickley, Smith, Zimmerman) will be reviewed.
