    In this informative class we will explore the many aspects of Horticulture. Jodi Jenkins, co-owner of Natures Magic Design, a unique landscape design services firm will cover all the essential components of horticulture and gardening. We will cover the fundamentals of plant identification, soil and sun conditions, proper placement of planting beds and design concepts. The class will discuss what kinds of plants thrive whre and why, so you can create a garden that is as healthy as it is aesthetically pleasing. Our plant selection topics will include: basic plants (perennials, evergreens, deciduous). Basic problems: (PH balance, diseases, insects, DEER!) Tecniques on maintaining your plants, and specialized plantings: (English gardens, Japanese gardens, hillside plantings, pool areas, etc.) Also, how to care for your plants: pruning, dividing, mulching, watering, etc. wil be extensively covered. This will be an information packed class that will definitely increase your knowledge and appreciation of horticulture!

    Learn to create realistic drawings starting with basic shapes. Learn simple shading techniques to make your drawings come alive. The student will start with a simple still life and will steadily progress to create more complex pieces. This course is taught in a fun and casual learning atmosphere and encourages interaction among students.

    Learn about the Dutch, English, French and Native American influences on the development of the Hudson River Valley Region and how modern towns developed out of the early settlements. This course will also discuss local folklore and colorful historic characters of the region including: Henry Hudson, Peter Stuyvesant, Washington Irving, James Fenimore Cooper, Benedict Arnold, Major John Andre, Sybil Ludington, Edgar Allen Poe and Henry Wells. We will also explore how steam boats, the railroad and modern highways have had an impact on the region's development.

    The Hudson River Valley is considered by many researchers to be the most haunted area in the United States. This course will excite, fascinate and thrill all participants with tales of ghosts and haunted houses. It includes a history going back to the early Dutch settlements and well into the modern age. The Hudson River Valley Region has a history of haunting that will include, but not be limited to haunted houses. We will explore haunted lighthouses, forts and even a few regional graveyards and a ship or two. Hear tales of haunting that you have never heard before in this course that will thrill those who love ghost stories.

Members of the class will meet at Smalley's for the field trip.
