The student will learn to assess cardio-respiratory endurance, body fat, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, pulmonary function, and blood pressure, and to evaluate the results of such tests. Students will be instructed on how to perform a complete health history on a client, the legal issues they would be presented with, and how to interpret these results to the client. Note: Students must register for both a lecture and a lab. 2 Lecture, 3 Lab, 3 Credit Hours. Prerequisite: ESW 101.

IV. Course Description This course is designed for the A.S. degree in Exercise Science and Wellness. The student will increase his/her knowledge of the effects of exercise on special populations and learn to modify exercise based on age, gender and medical conditions such as coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, obesity, pregnancy, arthritis and low back pain. Students will be trained to use equipment and to keep clients motivated. An additional lab hour will be devoted to a hands-on experience in our fitness center where students will apply coursework to assist clients. The course may include placement in a local fitness center. Prerequisite: ESW201
