    The basic knowledge of counselor ethics and counselor-client relationships will be studied. Particular attention is given to issues regarding confidentiality, privileged communication, privacy, and ethical responsibilities, as well as legal issues and elements of documentation. The development of competence in the thorough understanding of the tenets of the Canon of Ethical Principles will be taught. Field work placement and evaluation are provided as part of the course.

    Adventures computing is a two week program in which students will be introduced to a variety of computer activities stressing logical thinking, computer skills and beginning programming.

    Computer Academy is a two or four week program in which students will have the opportunity to explore different programming languages, CAD, web design and graphic design. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with professional staff to expand their computer knowledge and challenge themselves with both independent and group projects.

    Students will have the opportunity to work with an experienced technician to discover the inner working of computer architecture. Students will become familiar with the various components that comprise the hardware structure of a computer and work to assemble and troubleshoot the machines. In addition, students will be given an opportunity, although it is not required, to choose and purchase components for assembly of their own computer, to take home and keep. Installaton of operating systems and basic networking will be covered. Several classes will also be spent introducing students to truly personalize their own machine.

    This is a program that will immerse students in a working professional studio production environment. Students will be taught by professors from Dutchess Community College's Communication Program. Working in the college's professional quality studio, students will be exposed to all elements of the professional production process as they work to create a cooperative product that will allow each student to choose an area of interest in the production process and explore it in depth. Through their experiences on the sound stage, in the video editing rooms and in the audio recording studio, students will be left with a real impression of what is is like to work in the video production industry. Students who take the Studio Film Production class in the first session and wish to continue into the second session will work to further enhance their studio production skills and take the lead in the production of the Academy's Summer '11 short film. This film will be written and produced by members of the Studio Film Production Class in the second session.

    (1/2 Day Morning Both Sessions)) Podcasting is a new type of online media that is gaining popularity everyday as both amateurs and professionals take to the web to create radio and television type broadcasts in this age of "New Media." In this class, students will work to plan, create and publish original audio and video content focusing on various tecnology related issues. Students will be preparing reviews of the latest technology gadgets, software tools, popular websites and video games for distribution as podcasts on the academy website. If you have ever dreamed of having your own radio talk show or television program,the time is now. New Media is here.

    (1/2 day morning both sessions) Come play with Lego mindstorms robots while learning basic programming principles. Participants will build different Lego Mindstorms robots and learn how to program the robot to do what you want it to do. Fun and exciting missions from the 2009 First Lego League competition will be used as examples of what the robots can be programmed to do

You may register for day, afternoon, an all day two week session, or for the entire month. This will be an exciting opportunity to be in this technological fast lane with other students who share a similar passion for all the exciting opportunities for work and play that technology offers today.

    In this course students will have the opportunity to explore programming languages such as JAVA, C++ and Visual Basic. Working with these popular languages, students will become familiar with the basic functions of the language, as well as, work toward developing both an independent and a collaborative project that showcases the skills that have been developed. These courses are the perfect fit for students who will be entering Advanced Placement programming classes in High School, and will provide participants experience actually writing programs in the languate before ever stepping foot into the AP classroom.

    Students will become familiar with many aspects of web site development. Students will explore language such as HTML and JAVASCRIPT, as well as work with software solutions sucH as MS FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Special attention will also be paid to cutting edge development applications such as Macromedia Flash MX and their implications for web design. The goal of the class will be to produce an academy web site.
