Explore the many diverse styles of music, including folk, jazz, r and b, classical, and more, from the prespective of the drum. We will learn the difference and similiarities of these various music genres and be able to drum along. There is a wide open world out there, and it's time to start exploring.

This course will expose students to what piping is all about. Learn notes, the scale, and enough embellishments to be able to play a simple tune on a chanter. Begin to learn on the practice chanter. The instructor will perform to expose students to the various types of tunes, uniforms worn, etc. (8 Sessions)

Are you a guitarist wondering how to turn your riffs into songs? Or a drummer who has never played with a group? Maybe you are a keyboard player or instrumentalist that is interested in learming to improvise. If you have an interest in playing, writing or listening to rock music, this class may be for you. Students will learn from the masters of the genre as they study, and play rock, blues, punk and metal classics. Students will also have the opportunity to express their own creativity as they write their own chord progressioins, riffs and lyrics. Finally, students will play together in groups organized by ability level and will learn the fundamentals of ensemble performance and improvisation.

This class will explore the history of Native American music. The instructor will perform traditional music and students will also have the opportnity to learn some drumming patterns and play in class. An exciting and deeply beautiful experience!

Explore the rich varied world of Celtic music, from Europe, Britain, Ireland and North America. Class will listen to and discuss vocal and instrumental recordings, rare, traditional and modern, explore the history, culture and cross pollination of the Celts and receive materials for further exploration on their own.

This course will cover traditional regional and historic music of the Hudson River Valley. No musical experience is required, but experienced musicians and singers will have a chance to increase their repertoire with "Home Grown" music of the corridor from Albany to New York City. We will study the major local collections of music including songs of the early Dutch explorers and settlers, colonial songs from the Allison family, songs of Henry Backus "The Saugerties Bard" from the 1850's, songs and dances of Camp Woodland from the 1950's and music from the environmental sloop the Clearwater. Examples will include songs of the railroaders, quarrymen, lumberjacks, steamboat captains, and apple growers. We will also include 20th Century songs by folksong writers such as Grant Rogers, Les Rice, William Geckle, Ken Gonyea, Mark Fried, Rich Nestler and Pete Seeger.
