Uses the computer as a tool to draw, paint, scan and manipulate images. Students create projects utilizing the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver) and PowerPoint. This course, that includes both lecture and lab projects, familiarizes students with these applications in preparation for intermediate coursework. Color theory and principles of design are also covered. This introductory course does not assume prior drawing, painting, photography, computer graphic, or Web site creation experience. However, familiarity with a Mac or Windows environment is helpful. Offered: Fall, Spring
  • 3.00 Credits

Uses the computer as a tool to manipulate and edit raster graphics, otherwise known as digital images. Photoshop and ImageReady, tools in the Adobe Creative Suite which imitate traditional photographic techniques, are used. Students also learn to use digital cameras and prepare images for use on the World Wide Web. No prior photography experience is necessary. Prerequisites: Completion of ENG 98, if required, and CGA 101 or written permission of instructor Offered: Fall, Spring
  • 3.00 Credits

Provides the basics of desktop publishing and computer layout design. Utilizing InDesign, a computer layout program in the Adobe Creative Suite, students learn to create a document, select fonts, format and edit text, and import graphics. Good layout design and type design practices are emphasized. Students also learn to scan, place, crop and manipulate digital images in preparation for printing. Design projects may include type design, logos, letterhead, envelopes, business cards, certificates, newsletters, package design and fliers. Prerequisites: Completion of ENG 98, if required, and any other CGA course or written permission of instructor Offered: Fall, Spring
  • 3.00 Credits

Increases student skills needed for desktop publishing and Web page design utilizing vector images. Basic design and layout concepts are reviewed. Adobe Illustrator software is employed. Students learn to make and modify shapes; draw using the pen and paintbrush; work with layers, paths, text and masks; and prepare documents for printing. Before starting the course, students should be familiar with opening graphic menus, scanning images, storing and accessing files, and placing images into a graphics program. Prerequisites: Completion of ENG 98, if required, and CGA 101 or written permission of instructor Offered: Fall (beginning 2009), Spring
  • 3.00 Credits

Introduces the use of browsers, HTML and CSS coding, and Adobe Dreamweaver software associated with designing page layouts for the World Wide Web on the Macintosh platform. Correct design concepts for Web page layout are taught. Students must have a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop prior to enrolling in this course in order to prepare images for the Web. Prerequisite: CGA 110 or written permission of instructor Offered: Fall (beginning 2009)
  • 3.00 Credits

Provides hands-on experience with Adobe Flash, a Web-authoring and animation tool, as well as the Adobe Creative Suite's ImageReady. Students create Web sites and projects that include graphics, sound, animation and interactivity for multimedia presentations. A working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is required. Prerequisite: CGA 110 or written permission of instructor Offered: Spring
  • 3.00 Credits

Enables students to produce high-quality movies for DVD, multimedia and the Web using iMovie and Final Cut Express/Pro. Fundamentals of file formats, computer hardware, file compression and software tools are presented. Students learn to make storyboards; capture video; mark and edit source clips; and use transitions, titles and audio tools. The finished movies in Quicktime format are burned to DVD for presentation on either a Mac or Windows computer. Students should have their own digital camcorder. However, camcorders may be available for loan. Prerequisite: CGA 101 or written permission of instructor Offered: Spring
  • 3.00 Credits

Is designed for students with no prior chemistry experience. The course includes basic chemical concepts such as history of chemistry, basic systems of measurement, matter and energy, atoms and molecules, atomic theory, the periodic table, chemical bonding and chemical equations. Corequisite: MA 93 Offered: Fall, Spring, Summer
  • 4.00 Credits

Combines the basic principles and theories of chemistry with calculating the solution of mathematical problems involving measurements, properties of matter, chemical reactions, gas laws, thermochemistry, chemical bonding and solutions. Students use scientific calculators. In the laboratory portion of class, students apply manipulative techniques which allow first-hand observations of chemical transformations. The course is taught through lecture, discussion, demonstrations, video discs, manipulative lab practice, computer-simulated lab practice and cooperative group problem solving. Prerequisites: Completion of ENG 98, if required, and high school chemistry or CHM 100 Corequisite: MA 95, if required Offered: Fall, Spring
  • 4.00 Credits

Begins with periodic relationship and chemistry bonding, and focuses on the gas laws and various properties and formations of solutions. Emphasis is placed on kinetics and equilibrium. Organic and nuclear chemistry, gas laws, titrations, organic reactions and the synthesis of organic compounds are introduced. The lab experiments reinforce the lecture portion. Prerequisite: CHM 101 Offered: Fall, Spring
