This course presents principles and proce-dures in psychological testing. It investigates test and instrument construction and standar-dization in the measurement of intelligence, aptitude, personality and achievement. Prerequisites: PSYC 101 and MATH 122

This course introduces students to psycholog-ical research on sex and gender. This course will examine sex differences in cognitive abili-ties, personality and social behavior and the possible causes of these differences. The im-plications of gender roles for the behavior of women and men 'will be examined though the study of social behavior such as aggression, altruism, social influence, nonverbal behavior, and achievement. Finally, the impact of changing gender roles on attitudes and perso-nality will be examined through a review of current literature in this field. Prerequisites: PSYC 101 and PSYC 201

This course prepares the student to under-stand the basic research methodology used in psychological research. Emphasis will be placed on developing a working knowledge of the designs of psychological experiments. (every semester) Prerequisites: PSYC 101 and MATH 122

This course continues the development of basic research skills in psychology. This will include emphasizing the understanding of ex-perimental designs, their execution, an analysis of various methodologies, and the reporting of research findings. (spring) Prerequisite: PSYC 309

This course focuses on the biological basis of behavior and experience. The course provides an overview of neuroanatomy, neurophysiol-ogy, the functions of different brain areas, and research methodology. Also studied are the relationships between brain and behavior by examining topics such as sensation and per-ception, waking and sleeping, hunger, repro-duction, emotion, language and psychological disorders. (every fall and spring) Note: This course replaces PSYC 210 and PSYC 211 and is a required course for all Psychology majors beginning in fall 2008. Prerequisite: PSYC 101

This course explores how modern evolutio-nary theory has the capacity to link the social sciences to each other and to the natural sciences. The focus of study is on integrating evolutionary theory into current psychological theory. (spring) Prerequisites: PSYC 101, PSYC 210, PSYC 211 or PSYC 311

This course examines the psychology of work-ing and careers. The focus is to provide stu-dents with both a theoretical background of vocational psychology and to offer practical applications for exploring personal career choices. Prerequisites: PSYC 101, 203.

Evidence continues to grow regarding the need to understand psychological phenomena within a cultural context. This course explores cultural variation within psychological theo-ries. Topics to be covered include: personality, intelligence, psychopathology, and social and family issues. (fall) Prerequisite: PSYC 101

This course explores the psychology of the family, including a discussion of the religious, cultural, ethnic, and psychological factors af-fecting family life. Topics to be discussed in-clude an examination of the intergenerational functions of family dynamics. (spring) Prerequisite: PSYC 101

This course is a historical and conceptual sur-vey of the key figures, ideas, methods, and philosophical presuppositions of psychology. The course includes an examination of psy-choanalytic theory, cognitive psychology, and contemporary developments in cognitive science, together with the philosophical issues of consciousness, existentialism, humanism, freedom, and naturalism. (fall) (This course is cross-listed with PHIL 390) Prerequisites: In Psychology or Philosophy: 3 credits at 300 level, and 6 credits at 200-300 levels, or instructor's permission
