This course provides basic knowledge and skills of three contemporary interventions designed for people with co-occurring psychiatric, substance use and medical issues. The first intervention focuses on the principles and practices of Motivational Interviewing and its role in building motivation for change. The second intervention focuses on the concepts and skills of Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and its role in assisting people who have co-occurring conditions in developing appropriate, stage-specific coping skills in order to achieve and maintain therapeutic goals. The third intervention focuses on the exploration, understanding and critical analysis of the theoretical background and beginning phases of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy as it relates to individuals, groups and treatment teams.
