    Three hours Requires participation in directed and supervised teaching eperiences in early childhood settings where practical skills and course knowledge are applied. Includes class seminars to coordinate, support, and evaluate the student teaching eperience. Students are formally and informally assessed including site visits conducted by course instructor. Students demonstrate competency in professional early childhood teaching standards and early childhood course content. Required: 60 hours supervised field eperience in approved early childhood program. Prerequisite: Students must have completed or be taking concurrently all 100 and 200 level ECE courses OR consent of ECE Program Coordinator.

    One hour Reflects student's professional development. Candidates work with faculty mentors to further develop program portfolio in order to demonstrate developing competence under the Department of Education's Candidate Assessment Plan to meet appropriate content and professional education standards. Focuses on the ability to synthesize content with practice and think in an interdisciplinary manner. Portfolio must receive a "pass" beforeenrollment in ECE 411. Prerequisite: 45 ECE credit hours, Junior Standing.

    Three hours Studies dietary needs of young children and the nutritional requirements during pregnancy and lactation. Eamines nutritional problems and dietary habits. Includes the essentials of food purchasing, preparation, storage, and safety concerns as well as menu planning and the fundamentals of family-style dining in center-based settings. Emphasizes development of lifelong health habits and attitudes. Required: Three hours of field eperience. Prerequisite: ECE 120

    Three hours Introduces basic concepts, theories, and issues involving cultural and linguistic diversity and the educational system. Emphasizes development of skills needed to interact with families of diverse backgrounds in order to facilitate educational involvement. Eamines the influences of gender, culture, economic situation, learning styles, and language on the socialization of young children with implications of practice. Attention is given to appropriate strategies to support English Language Learners and children with unique cultural backgrounds, traditions, and practices. Evaluates and develops curricular materials for culturally and linguistically diverse children. Required: si hours of field eperience. Prerequisite: ECE 260 or consent of instructor.

    Three hours Language and Literacy Covers developmental foundations, major issues, and curricular applications of language and literacy in inclusive early childhood programs. Specific attention given to typical and atypical development; environmental influences that enrich or delay emerging literacy and language; methods, techniques, materials, and eperiences for instruction and assessment; early childhood standards and learning goals; and evaluation of language and literacy curricula, methods, and environments in early childhood programs. Curriculum mapping strategies used to integrate developmentally appropriate language arts content. Required: si hours of field eperience. Prerequisite: ECE 280 or consent of instructor.

    Four hours Humanities and Physical and Health Education Utilizes early childhood standards to develop/assess/evaluate curriculum in the content areas of arts and humanities (art, music, drama, dance), health education, and PE for preschool children and the motor and creative epression domain areas for infants and toddlers. Eamines the value of creative epression, methods for creating an environment encouraging creativity, and means for integrating creative arts across all curricular areas. Provides understanding of developmentally appropriate health activities and gross/fine motor programming and teaching strategies to enable young learners to develop fundamental motor, rhythmic, and self-help skills. Required: si hours of field eperience. Prerequisite: ECE 280.

    Four hours Science, and Social Studies Utilizes early childhood standards to develop, assess, and evaluate curriculum in the content areas of math, science, and social studies for preschool children and the cognitive and social emotional domain areas for infants and toddlers. Studies eperiences to support the cognitive and socialization processes including curiosity, inquiry, problem-solving, thinking, and numeracy skills. Develops techniques to foster an awareness and appreciation of the social and natural environments. Required: si hours of field eperience. Prerequisite: ECE 280.

    One hour Content and methods for teaching with computers and related technologies, evaluation of children's software, technology for communication, and record-keeping in early childhood programs. Issues related to young children and technology. Integration of technology for learning and administration. Required: 3 hours of field eperience. Prerequisite: ECE 280.

    Two hours Eamines the learning environments in children, ages birth to three, with particular emphasis on center based settings. Topics include a review of infant/toddler development, characteristics of a quality education, developmentally appropriate curriculum, early childhood standards, guidance based on observation and family dynamics, assessment and early intervention, and relations affecting infant development and growth, and parenting/teaching strategies. Required: si hours of field eperience. Prerequisite: ECE 280.
