Junior year. Global studies courses contain a substantial dimension of cultural and social structural comparison. Students will gain substantive understanding of how the diversity of the world affects their everyday lives. A significant component of these courses that reach beyond the United States and students are exposed to primary sources from multiple cultures. Global studies courses contain a significant research component, which encourage students to explore culturally diverse points of view. Pre-requisites: junior standing.

Capstone course for all B.A. Students in the College of Fine Arts. This course explores the roles that art plays in a democratic society. Students who complete this course successfully will: 1) explore ways to connect to and will reflect upon ways that art processes, organizations, and practices create aesthetic understandings and knowledge that are common among fine and performing arts disciplines; 2) engage collaborative processes and efforts that futher enhance art processes, organizations, or policies on campus or in the region; 3) develop the ability to write and speak about art and art processes in ways that demonstrate clear comprehension of theoretical and artistic concetps; and 4) develop strategies that futher their ability to engage in advocacy for the arts within our democratic processes. Enrollment criteria: senior standing, Fine Arts major.

Collaborative interdisciplinary service learning project. In addition to integrating knowledge from at least two academic disciplines, students must collaborate with at least one other student and at least one community group in planning or implementing a project addressing a community need. Grant or proposal writing is sometimes part of this process. Students interested in initiating this option must seek a faculty supervisor with expertise in one of the disciplines.

This course is a technical writing and tutoring intern- ship, in which advanced students provide ongoing tutoring to faculty and students at Millikin. Each student serves as a tutor in the Media Arts Center and helps develop related workshops in the Media Arts (computer-aided publishing, web publishing, computer graphics and video editing) at Millikin. Pre-requisites: at least one course in Computer Aided Publishing, Web Publishing, Computer Graphics Design or Introduction to Video Production. May be repeated for a maximum of three credits.
