The main themes covered by this course are mostly linguistic, literary, philosophic, artistic, and religious. The course will be offered in English with no prerequisites and open to all students. The aim is to provide students new to the subject with an informed and balanced first impression of some of the fundamental components of Japanese culture, and to do so in such a way as to demonstrate its differences from the Western heritage while also noting their universal human value.
