Students combine theory with practical applications to various health care situations. Content emphasizes data security concepts, types of threats to data security, data protection strategies, and legal, social and ethical issues affecting data security. In addition to students pursuing a Microcomputer Support degree or certificate, this course is also useful to any student who wishes to expand his/her knowledge of the topic, for career enhancement in business, health care, government or legal positions. Typical subjects involve router elements, flow control methods, Cisco IOS, configuring and verifying IP addresses, RIP and IGRP protocols, monitoring and verifying router list operations, and Access Control Lists. 3 lecture hours; 0 lab hours per week.

Prerequisite: NETW 120. A study of TCP/IP on a network. Topics focus on how to configure TCP/IP, troubleshoot and install TCP/IP. Covers the different types and methods of name resolution. 2 lecture hours; 2 lab hours per week.

Typical subjects involve IPX, LAN segmentation, switching methods, Ethernet operation at various speeds, Spanning Tree Protocol, Virtual LANs, RIPV2, OSPF, EIGRP, VLSM and Access Control Lists. 3 lecture hours; 0 lab hours per week.

Prerequisite: COER 112 or equivalent. An introduction to UNIX/LINUX operating systems. Topics include basic commands, file manipulation, file creation, shell script creation and execution, system administration duties and simple installation. 2 lecture hours; 2 lab hours per week.

An introduction to the topics, technologies and terminology associated with network information security.
