This course is a performance-based ensemble open to all majors. The Steel Pans, originally created in Trinidad, have been of an increasingly popular option for performance studies within the Elementary-Collegiate level music programs. Originally being a music genre where musical knowledge is transmitted by rote and ear, the Steel Pan has attracted students with diverse learning styles. Here at Delaware State University, the development of the Steel Pan Ensemble will exemplify the crossover of departments, and more specifically, a crossover of the student body into the music department participation. This course is not a course with musically literate prerequisities, but will encourage music literacy as scholars progress throughout their enrollment. Similar to other performances ensembles at DSU, this course will attract students across the college and gain exposure for DSU. Performance opportunities will be mandatory for students to attend throughout the semster.Credit, one hour
