QLTY LEA2: Lean Manufacturing
0.00 Credits
Ivy Tech Community College-Central Office
Lean Manufacturing is a term that means adding value to the customer by eliminating an expenditure that does not create value to the end customer. By looking through the perspective of the customer or consumer of the product or service, value is defined as any process or action for which the customer is willing to pay. Basically, Lean is creating more value with less work. The Lean methodology can be applied to any manufacturing or service area. Lean is a set of tools that assists in the identification and elimination of waste. As waste is eliminated, quality improves while production times and costs are reduced. Examples of these tools are value stream mapping and pull systems. Another tool, product flow, eliminates unevenness and reduces waste.

QLTY LEA3: Lean Office

Ivy Tech Community College-Central Office
Lean Office is focusing people¿s efforts toward creating value for the customer and eliminating waste. Office efficiency is improved by eliminating idle time created by paperwork and bureaucracy. The goal is improved customer service. By eliminating waste that is not valued by the customer we are better able to provide exactly what the customer wants, when the customer wants it, and in the way that delights the customer. Office waste can be boiled down to two areas ¿wasted activities¿ and ¿wasted time.¿ Too often we look at how to get things done faster or better instead of asking what things we really ought to be doing. It is common for offices to spend a lot of money on efficiency and automation that leads to them doing the wrong things a bit faster or automating bad processes.
