This movement-based course will study elements of Hip-Hop culture through the examination of dance movement and history required to develop the skills needed to perform this unique form. Sociocultural and historical context will inform the content exploration. May be repeated for credit. Offered fall and winter semesters.

Study of dance as a cross-cultural phenomenon, tracing dance practices around the world and including the roots of tap and jazz and history of ballet before the modern era. A variety of methodological viewpoints including historical, sociological, critical, aesthetic, and ethnographic will be used. Offered fall semester. This movement-based course will study, explore, and celebrate the rhythms, geographical knowledge, and cultural context of dances originating in Africa. May be repeated for credit. Offered fall and winter semester.

Rehearsal and performance of faculty or visiting artist-choreographed projects. May include touring, school functions, off-campus events, annual concerts, or other programs. Dance Company roles requiring pointe are restricted to students or students wearing pointe shoes in Ballet Technique at least twice a week. Dance majors must take twice. Offered fall and winter semesters. Prerequisites: Restricted to dance majors and DAN 175 with a C or better. Corequisites: One of DAN 241, DAN 251, DAN 281, DAN 341, DAN 351, DAN 381, DAN 441, DAN 451, or DAN 481.
