Special topics include a conceptual history of trauma and abuse; signs and symptoms of the abused individual; immediate emotional and long term mental health consequences of abuse; and social, ethical, and legal issues involved in victim and perpetrator counseling. Students arrange clinical internships at local agencies or other approved settings, and deliver counseling services under the supervision of the internship site and the Practicum instructor. CP 631 serves as a vehicle for transcription of internship hours, and can be repeated until all 250 required client contact hours and 50 site supervision hours are completed. Successful completion of CP 550, Comprehensive Exam, submission of complete Internship paperwork (see Internship Manual), and Internship Coordinator approval are required for students to register for CP 631 the first time.
