ART 250: Special Topic- The Visual Arts in China

Nolan A survey of the visual cultures of the Islamic world, from the beginnings of Islam in the seventh century CE through the early modern period. The course focuses on architecture, paintings, ceramics, metalwork, textiles, and gardens, and the social forces that shaped their character. Attention will be given to the interaction between Islamic and non-Islamic cultures. The lecture format of the course will be varied with class discussions and student presentations.
