This course focuses on the health care of the individual and the family in the home, and the application of the nursing process to population aggregates in the community. Experiences in the application of community health nursing concepts in a variety of community settings are provided. Course includes 84 clinical hours. This course focuses on strengthening professional nursing practice through the integration of knowledge from the discipline of nursing and related areas. The clinical practicum provides the opportunity to use this knowledge as a basis for engaging in innovative and skilled nursing practice designed to address a range of health care needs of individuals and groups. This course is designated as a writing enriched course. Course includes 84, self-directed, independent clinical hours. Prerequisites: NURS 216, 351/353, 352, 357, 363, and all required liberal studies and science courses. Pre- or corequisites: NURS 453 and 455. 6 semester hours

Within the context of community health, this course focuses on the nurse's roles as advocate, teacher, and as coordinator of care of the patient and family coping with the illness experience at home. Using a systems approach for the analysis of family needs, adult complex care problems such as the nursing management of incontinence, immobility, intellectual impairment, dying/death, and family burden are emphasized at all levels of prevention. In addition, sociocultural, ethical, environmental, economic, and political factors influencing the delivery of home health care are addressed. Course includes 56 clinical hours. Prerequisites: NURS 360, 361, 363, 364, 450, and 452. Pre- or corequisite: NURS 462 and 472. 3 semester hours

The course provides students with opportunities to increase nursing knowledge, integrate evidence-based findings, refine technical skills, develop proficiency in communication, and use the nursing process in providing culturally competent care to adult patients with complex acute and longterm health care needs. Prioritization of care through the use of clinical problem-solving and decision-making is discussed and applied. The clinical focus is on complex multisystem problems that involve individuals with diverse ethnic or cultural backgrounds in acute care settings. Opportunities for collaboration with other health care providers in the planning of care are provided. Demonstration of professional and ethical behaviors are stressed. Prerequisites: NURS 360, 361, 363, 364, 450, and 452. Pre- or corequisites: NURS 460, 471, 472. 7 semester hours

Application of problem solving and critical thinking approaches will be facilitated through the use of simulated clinical situations and practice in standardized test taking. Prerequisites: All junior-year nursing courses. 1 semester hour

This course continues to develop clinical problem solving and decision-making skills in nursing students. Factors that influence clinical problem solving are examined. Application of problem solving and critical thinking approaches continue to be facilitated through the use of simulated clinical situations and practice in standardized test taking. This course requires students to achieve a score of 850 or greater on the Health Education Systems, Inc. (HESI) exit examination. Prerequisite: NURS 471. 1 semester hour

This intensive clinical experience provides an opportunity for students to gain knowledge, as well as apply and refine skills in the application of the nursing process to a selected patient population. Nurse preceptors from a variety of clinical agencies and the faculty collaborate to assist students to gain confidence through direct patient care opportunities and clinical conferences as they approach the transition to professional practitioner. Students are encouraged to be creative in writing personal objectives and with the help of the preceptor, develop experiences which will assist them in exploring career options available in professional nursing. Course includes 96 clinical hours. Prerequisites: NURS 460, 462, and 471. Corequisite: 472. 4 semester hours

Individual investigation and analysis of a nursing problem in an area of special interest is undertaken. Reading, research, consultation, and discussion are required. Credit, scope, topic, and prerequisites are arranged individually.

Production/operations management techniques are studied as applied to logistics problems. Topics include decision making, forecasting, capacity planning, linear programming, facility location, the transportation method, layout planning, information systems and operations, scheduling and aggregate planning, jobshop scheduling, and inventory control systems. Prerequisite: QA 251 and 252, MATH 118, and junior standing. 3 semester hours

An organization's decision to consider in favor of globalizing operations involves factors such as product, domestic/foreign market interplay, cost, technology transfer, and resource availability. Technological and scientific development also impact on recoverable resources. In addition, because many uncertainties enter in choosing a country for the site of globalizing operations, risk assessment is included in the decision-making process. The course focuses on issues of immediate concern for operational decision making in the new global environment. It examines the international aspects of quality, productivity, and strategy while addressing concerns of customers, employees, and shareholders. Prerequisite: MGT 365. Corequisite: OPM 352. 3 semester hours
