ANTH 423: Forensic Anthropology Internship

This is a capstone course for remaining minors in forensic anthropology and qualified biology track students. It involves placement in a professional organization that deals with postmortem investigation (most often a medical examiner's office). Students are expected to stand in on autopsies, aid with forensic investigation of skeletonized bodies, work in the toxicology laboratory, and participate in other activities related to criminal and forensic investigation. Prerequisites: ANTH 204 and 308; BIOL 121, 122, and 230 with labs; CHEM 101 and 102 with labs. 6 semester hours

Classes consist of discussions based on case studies and readings, presentations by arts professionals, visits to arts organizations in the region, and problem-solving to better understand the complex points of view that shape the arts industry today. Included are such topics as balancing the demand to develop audiences with the need to maintain excellence in programming; issues pertaining to financial stability, fundraising initiatives and earned income sources; controversial programming and its public relations implications; staff and board responsibilities and relationships; diversification of personnel and programming; and managing capital campaigns and designing new facilities.
