Familiarizes students with computerized account management and develops skills in using medical management software. Includes recordkeeping, controlling inventory, patient accounting, billing insurance form preparation, appointment scheduling, payroll, word processing, and database management.

Designed for prospective medical assistants who handle insurance claims in health care facilities. Patient's records and ledger sheets are used to complete required insurance forms. The students will gain experience in identifying and correcting charge entry errors, as well as using up-to-date medical coding.

This course uses a microcomputer loaded with WORD to provide instruction in word processing concepts. All basic text editing functions are included as well as merge, math, spell check, sort, etc. Projects which require the use of automated features of the word processing program will be used. Evaluation of the projects will be on the use of the automated features as well as accurate business communications.

Development of speed, accuracy, and competence in transcription of tapes of correspondence, reports, and records in the area of specialization (administrative, legal, medical) in which the student is enrolled. All transcription must be done on micro- computers.

This course prepares students for medical coding positions by helping them to understand how to find the correct diagnosis codes using the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, CLinical Modification (ICD-9-CM). Students will learn to convert widely accepted uniform descriptions of medical, surgical and diagnostic services rendered by health care providers with numeric codes.

This course prepares students for medical coding positions by helping them to understand how to find the correct procedural codes using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) and HCPCS. Students will learn to convert widely accepted uniform descriptions of medical, surgical and diagnostic services rendered by health care providers with five-digit numeric codes.

This course instructs students on the basics of touch typing using a microcomputer. Emphasis is placed on correct posture and finger positions. The basic keyboard, including numbers and symbols, is the focus of this one-credit course.

An introduction to converting documents to PDF format, setting navigation for PDFs, setting security options, creating bookmarks, and adding hyperlinks and interactivity to documents using the standard for cross-platform file sharing with-out sacrificing the original design. Macintosh/ Windows and Work skills recommended.

Students will create and edit office correspondence such as business letters, interoffice memorandums, business reports, and tabulated columnar material by using Microsoft Word. Emphasis is placed on keyboarding speed, accuracy, and document formatting using keyboarding software.
