This course will review the scientific evidence demonstrating loss of biological diversity across all taxonomic groups. Various strategies for conserving biological diversity will be presented, including single-species, ecosystem, and landscape level approaches. Emphasis will be placed on strategies for managing small populations. Additional topics to be addressed include habitat fragmentation, restoration ecology, and sustainable development.
