A Selected Topics course is a normal, departmental offering which is directly related to the discipline, but because of its specialized nature, may not be able to be offered on a yearly basis by the department.

1.00 - 3.00 Credits
This course will provide students the opportunity to explore a course of study independently. For example, a student may develop a musical skill relevant for their work in music therapy. Approval is granted only after the student has presented a detailed description of the intended independent study project. Approval is granted only for students whose clinical, musical and/or academic record provides support for the benefits of this type of study. This course is repeatable for credit provided that the course of study differs substantially each time.

Students will complete 100 hours of supervised advanced clinical work (with at least 40 hours of direct client service) beyond the completion of undergraduate/ equivalency clinical training requirements (1200 hours). Translating theory into professional practice is a central focus of this course. Students will utilize advanced musical, verbal and written skills with clients they serve. Students will receive weekly online group supervision with their university supervisor, as well as individual supervision sessions. This course focuses on developing appropriate clinical assessment, treatment, and evaluation methods, as well as clinical case presentations from the student's clinical experiences. Notes: Students practicum placement requires approval by the MMT program director.

Students will complete 600 hours (at least 240 hours of direct client service) of supervised advanced clinical work beyond the completion of undergraduate/equivalency clinical training requirements (1200 hours) and graduate advanced practicum requirements (100 hours). Students will utilize advanced musical, verbal and written skills with clients they serve. Students will receive weekly online group supervision with their university supervisor, as well as individual supervision sessions. This course focuses on developing appropriate clinical assessment, treatment, and evaluation methods, as well as clinical case presentations from the student's clinical experiences. Prerequisites & Notes: Prerequisite MUSI 705, Advanced Music Therapy Practicum. Students internship placement requires approval by the MMT program director.

This course requires approval of the program director. An individual research study in which the student presents an original research idea, surveys the literature, formulates a specific research problem, designs the research, completes the research and submits a comprehensive written report. Students complete the master's degree research project under faculty supervision.

An introduction to civic engagement in a democratic society with a focus on the complex nature of public policy making and the role each citizen plays in the formation and modification of socially just public policies. Students will gain introductory skills in civil voice, civil discourse, public policy analysis and community mobilizing for social good.

Foundations of Academic Discovery serves as the entry point to the Rock Integrated Studies Program. With its strong faculty-student interaction, the course promotes intellectual inquiry, critical and creative thinking, and computer skills needed for academic success. Through varied content, the course introduces students to academic discourse and information literacy while exploring topics such as diversity and inclusion and global awareness. This course will set students along the path to becoming engaged with issues and scholarship important to a 21st century education while they learn about themselves and their place in the world.
