    Physical Assessment & Application of Nursing Process. This course provides the students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a comprehensive health assessment utilizing history taking, inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation. Theoretical and laboratory experiences will provide students the abilities to implement assessment strategies, as well as expected assessment findings, frequently seen variations from expected assessments, and how cultural differences can impact assessment and findings.     This is a course for LPN's who have been accepted for advanced placement and students who have transferred from another professional nursing program into the Associate Degree Nursing Program clinical courses. The course introduces the student to concepts of professional nursing as they relate to the philosophy and conceptual framework of the RACC ADN Program. Prerequisites: All courses stated in the Selective Admissions Procedures in the current Reading Area Community College Student Catalog, COM 121, current CPR certification for the professional, 2.5 or better GPA for Reading Area Community College work, and special permission of the Nursing Program Admissions Committee

    This course is designed to assist students to be successful when re-entering a clinical nursing course in the second year of the nursing program. The focus is on theoretical content, laboratory, and clinical skills. In addition the student will examine issues which are critical to their success.     This course further develops concepts of healthe an illness including biological defense mechanisms, infectious disease and chronic illness with a focus on care of adult and adolescent clients. The theory includes applying the nursing process to manage the care of clients in diverse settings. The emphasis is placed on utilizing critical thinking skills in applying the nursing process in the care of clients with acute and rehabilitative needs. Guided clinical experience facilitates continued development of nursing skills and the ability to apply theory to practice.     Nursing II Intro to Medical Surgical Nursing This course develops professional nursing practice knowledge of health and illness influenced by biological defense mechanisms, infectious disease processes, and chronic illness of adult clients. In this course, students apply the nursing process to manage the care of clients in diverse settings with an emphasis on critical thinking and leadership skills in the care of clients with acute and rehabilitative needs. Guided clinical experiences facilitate continued development of nursing care with an ability to apply theoretical concepts to professional practice.     Concepts of Community Health Nursing with an emphasis on health promotion and evidence-based practices will be discussed in this course. The course will explore health care economics, informatics, policy, and leadership. Students will use an epidemiological approach to assess community healthe and identify determinates of healthe within a community which may place individuals at risk for disease, disability, and premature death.     This course addresses rapidly changing alterations in health status while preparing the student for role transition to the graduate nurse. The content and practice are based on knowledge and skills acquired in all previous nursing courses. Concepts, trends and professional practice issues affecting healthcare delivery are analyzed. Clinical experiences allow for integration of theory and skills in the organization of care for multiple clients. Selected acute care and community health settings are utilized.     This course is a review of concepts required for licensure examination and entry into practice of professional nursing. The course includes application of the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) test plan, assessment of knowledge deficits, and remediation. This analysis will allow the student to identify and address trended knowledge gaps, learning strategies, and learning resources to improve knowledge in preparation for practice. Synthesis of concepts learned in the curriculum will result in a personal study plan to prepare for success on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN exam). Prerequisite:    PRINT "Take NUR-203 with a grade of C+ or higher" Take NUR-203; Minimum grade C+. (Required, Previous).
