A continuation of SCI 240, topics examined include blood, heart, circulation and blood vessels, the lymphatic and immune systems, and infection control and standard precautions. The body systems examined in this course include the respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive. Other topics explored include nutrition, genetics, and genetically linked diseases. Prerequisite: SCI 240

Etiology, epidemiology, and pathophysiology, according to gender and age, are examined along with the clinical manifestation of disease and treatment. Cells and tissues are discussed as the central concepts of pathophysiology including gene-environment interaction (genetic diseases), mechanisms of self-defense (immunity and inflammation), and cellular proliferation (biology, clinical manifestations, and treatment of cancer). Pathophysiologic alterations are examined in the following systems: neurologic,endocrine, reproductive, hematologic, cardiovascular and lymphatic, pulmonary, renal and urologic, digestive, musculoskeletal, and integumentary.

    Prerequisite: ENG 103Hot topics such as global warming, alternate energy sources, human population, and air pollution are covered in this course. Other topics such as environmental history, politics, and economics will be addressed. Students will be challenged to learn and discuss current environmental issues and to compare past issues and their impact on the environment that we live in and perceive in the present. What will the future of earth as an environment inhabited by the human race look like?
