This workshop will be a comprehensive course in the coaching of track and field. Included will be the techniques and training of the individual events, scheduling of practice and organization of meets and officiating. Each event in track and field will be discussed through lecture, videotape, demonstration, hands-on skill development and question and answer sessions. All students will be involved in each area by his or her own participation with the covered skills. Recommended for educators in the health and physical education fields, and educators coaching track and field student-athletes.

This workshop is designed for those teachers (K-12) and curricular experts who want to bring a more inclusive approach to their lessons and teaching style. Students will examine the Culture influences in the classroom with an emphasis on race, gender, exceptionality, and class issues. Students will learn to analyze and redesign their lessons to better meet the needs of all the children they teach. Recommended for K-12 educators.

Tests designed to measure the achievement of state or national standards (e.g. PSSA tests) need not be primary learning targets. NASA provides regional access centers, Teacher Resource Centers, Educational Specialists, and a wide range of on-line resources. Their learning activities are engaging and relevant to the real world. Appropriate standards are identified and assessment systems are suggested. A wide range of grade levels involving science, technology and mathematics are frequently the focus of NASA resources. Participants will develop a thematic learning experience.

Students never stop learning to read because reading is a complex set of skills, practices, and behaviors that must be adjusted for different kinds of texts and purposes for reading. Middle and secondary school teachers have become increasingly aware of the need to support adolescent readers as they gain strategies for reading with understanding and engagement in the various academic disciplines. This workshop will assist teachers from all academic disciplines in a) finding the intersections in reading/literacy and their disciplinary goals for learning, b) developing a complex and personal definition of reading within their disciplines, c) identifying and supporting adolescents'' emerging literacy needs, and d) designing reading-to-learn experiences within the content classroom that build student expertise and engagement in reading.

This workshop provides teachers, coaches, as well as other individuals with a wide range of nutritional and dietary knowledge and skills. Special emphasis will be placed upon understanding the basic principles of nutrition; focusing on the six classes of essential nutrients to optimize their nutritional values for the enhancement and promotion of personal health, fitness, physical performance, and weight management. Recommended for educators at all grade levels, school nurses, coaches, and school counselors.

This workshop provides a background in the use of computer presentation programs such as PowerPoint and Astound. Through hands-on experiences, students will develop a series of computer presentations for use in an educational setting. Related topics include draw and paint computer software, instructional design, flowcharting, storyboarding, multimedia and digital media. Recommended for K-12 educators.

This workshop is designed for public school elementary and secondary teachers and administrators who seek resources for teaching about the worlds religions, staying within legal parameters established through legislative and judicial processes. The workshop content includes the basic beliefs and practices of world religions, with an emphasis on the religious groups within our local communities. Recent legal decisions affecting religious activities in public schools will be examined. Readings, discussion, use of community resource persons, and development of teaching units are included in workshop activities. Recommended for 7-12 social studies educators.

The national science standards advocate scientific literacy for all students. What does this mean and how can it be achieved? This online workshop provides educators with an in-depth study of purpose/goals of the national science standards and details ways to implement these standards in the classroom. Participants will work extensively with the National and PA State Science Standards as they reflect on their own practice and endeavor to develop lessons that exemplify the goals of the science standards.

Teachers will create their own web sites combining knowledge of graphic and information design. They will also design activities, which integrate student-developed web sites into their curriculum. Recommended for K-12 educators.
