This course introduces students to the exercise science discipline. Students will examine concepts including professionalism, ethics, certification and licensure, employment opportunities and scientific foundations of the various sub-disciplines. Basic foundations of exercise science will be emphasized, as well as career planning and professional development. This course includes an extensive guest speaker series by professionals in the field of exercise science.

This course is designed to aid in professional role identity development and prepare students to become ethical practitioners. Students will also learn about therapeutic use of self, therapeutic rapport, the OT Code of Ethics, standards of professional practice, understanding the process and application of self-reflection, effective communication and the beginnings of interprofessional and intraprofessional relationships.

This course introduces fundamental medical terminology encompassing vocabulary, abbreviations, and symbols used in the professional language of Occupational Therapy. A significant focus is placed on terminology from the OT Practice Framework (OTPF-4).

This course will introduce students to the concepts of diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice, health disparities and cultural dynamics throughout the world. Connections to context and environmental impact on culture and beliefs will be shared through dynamic assignments and interactions with other people across the globe. A focus on activities of daily living like feeding, dressing, bathing, home care, child-rearing, and medical practices will be addressed and discussed through an open perspective via its impact on individuals, groups and populations.

This course will cover the basics of human behaviors across the lifespan as they relate to the sensory system, types of behaviors, and the utilization of a trauma-informed lens and their impact on individuals to best give students the foundational knowledge prior to applying intervention techniques. Learning the basics of clinical reasoning will also be covered in addition to an overview of occupational therapy, covering its history, philosophical beliefs, vision, values, and scope of practice. It will emphasize professional ethics, the connection between well-being and occupational engagement, culture, and human behavior. Students will learn about occupational therapy domain and process and the importance of client-centered care. Students will learn concepts and terminology from the OTPF-4 when analyzing clients throughout the lifespan.

This one credit course is designed to introduce students in the Five-Year BS/MSPAS Major to fundamental information about the PA profession. The course will discuss the role of the PA within the healthcare system in relation to other healthcare professionals. The course will require students to contemplate their own self-awareness and allow them to develop study skills which will assist in their personal and professional development. This course will also address topics of professionalism, communication and introduce students to scientific re-search.

This one credit course builds upon the information and instruction from PA 100. It is designed for sophomore PA students to expand upon the role of a PA and the importance of communication and professionalism. The course will focus on patient care topics, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. It will also introduce the student to medical skills that the student can apply as a future healthcare professional.

This one credit course continues to build upon PA 100 and PA 200, reinforcing the professionalism, communication and research required to be an effective PA. The course will discuss the concepts of grit and resiliency and help the student apply these concepts to be successful as a PA student and ultimately a practicing PA. Students will learn to develop their professional brand based on their strengths, character traits and professional goals. The course will advance critical thinking skills and introduce the concept of differential diagnosis.
