Topics include sampling, descriptive statistics, probability distributions, confidence intervals, hypotheses testing, regression and curve fitting, design of experiments, and use of statistical software. Consideration is given to practical issues in data collection, presentation, and analysis, as well as drawing conclusions based on data. This course focuses on the principles and issues of environmental systems as they have been impacted by an unsustainable anthropocentric worldview and related consumption practices. Topics will include environmental history, contemporary social aspects of sustainability (consumption behaviors, environmental justice, population dynamics, etc.), energy, legislation and policy, and food systems.
