ENV 455: Environmental Education

This course reviews the historical development of environmental education in the k-12 curriculum and the development of current standards in environment and ecology. A range of teaching methods for effectively presenting the scientific and economic aspects of environmental concerns as well as integration of community resources and agencies are explored. In addition, students will complete self-assessments and document their individual progress within each of the dimensions of wellness stated. This course fulfills a wellness course requirement.

This course will provide students with a basic understanding of how various environmental conditions impact all aspects of health and exercise performance. Topics to be discussed will include: environmental health concerns, air pollution, temperature regulation heat/cold stress, altitude and health, microgravity, and hypobaria. Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite: Any EXS or ENV course at the 100-level.
